Choosing Nursery Colours

I am a Nursery Art Illustrator.  I love my little people, I don't mean the little people at home (of course I love them!) but the cute little souls that pop into my head and onto the page.  Their stories intrigue me and I have to share them, their character, their clothes, their chuchie cheeks.
But, today I had an awful thought.  What if - after all this drawing and creating, the colours are all wrong?  I have a passion for colour and have a tendency to crank up the saturation - if you follow me on Instagram you'll understand.  I spend a lot of time admiring my fellow illustrators' work - nursery art, grunge art and everything in between.  There are so many beautiful pieces of nursery art, if you're here because you're in the market for some then you really must be spoilt for choice.  But back to my awful thought - in my illustrations you see lilacs, kale green, apricot all together in a single fun scene -what if my colours are all wrong?

This lead me to have a scoot around and find which colours are popular in nurseries at the moment.  I found this article in Parents Magazine describing six popular colours.  If you are about to paint the nursery walls then you must see this article - these shades are just so gorgeous they're edible.  You will want to spread them on toast and eat them for breakfast.  I do!

Those Little Chuchie Cheeks

I don't want to give away too much of the article, but it starts "Forget about pink and blue! Green is more unexpected. This particular shade is cheery and spring-like. It has a way of bringing the outdoors in. What's more, it's gender neutral."  Oh you don't know what a relief that was!

We then move on to a very pale peach - not dissimilar to the walls used to display my framed images. Then a light aqua.  This is not a colour you currently see in my nursery art, but it's a variant of 'dirty turquoise' which is one of my favourites at the moment.  So, I can guarantee this is going to pop up in the very near future.

OK that's it - I can't give away the whole show, you should go and look for yourself, but I will reveal that it has dispelled my worries.  The colours given are a paler shade than those used my art, but you would expect this.  Art would be swallowed up if it was the same colour as the walls.  But, I am now relieved and incredibly inspired.
